Course Objectives This course aims to introduce the students to the theories and approaches on social media with regards to contemporary debates.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Will be able to develop a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical grounds of social media,
  • Will be able to evaluate the impact of social media on society,
  • Will be able to discuss the effects of social media and communication on their daily life,
  • Will develop an awareness on social media’s impact on the nature of information.
Course Description This course introduces the major theories and discussions of social media within new media and communication, as well as other fields of social sciences, in particular political science and sociology. The issues and concepts relating to social media, such as participatory democracy, social movements, alternative identities, virtual communities, new possibilities, inequalities, and surveillance society will be discussed.
