Course Objectives This course aims to develop the visual story telling skills for journalism students. Students will learn the basics of photography and photojournailsm, and then move on to videography, and train in still or video shooting for news, features and documentaries.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students will be able to tell a news story through images
  • Students will be able to work with a stills camera
  • Students will be able to work with a video camera
  • Students will know the effect of equipment choices
  • Students will identify the necessary tools for visual journalism work
  • Students will be able to process and edit the images
Course Content The course will focus on the visual aspect of news and how to create them. The course will start with photojournalism, which includes the basics of photography, shooting and processing techniques. The course will then move on to video journalism. This will include news video techniques, composition and lighting techniques. Students of the course will be required to do handson work and attend practice sessions.



ACADEMIC CAUTION

Under the rubric of İzmir University of Economics Faculty of Communication, all forms of academic dishonesty are considered as crime and end in disciplinary interrogation. According to YÖK’s Student Discipline Regulation, the consequence of cheating or attempting to cheat is 6 to 12 months expulsion. Having been done intentionally or accidentally does not change the punitive consequences of academic dishonesty. Academic honesty is each student’s own responsibility.

Plagiarism is the most common form of academic dishonesty. According to the MerriamWebster Online Dictionary, to plagiarize means to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own. The easiest and most effective way to prevent plagiarism is to give reference when using someone else’s ideas, and to use quotation marks when using someone else’s exact words.
